Tadashi Hirakawa and Tsuchigama

Establishing his own Bizen ware atelier in 1989, Hirakawa immediately began a research for the origin of the Bizen ware, the attractiveness of which was lost as the country entered the modern era (post Meiji Restoration). His treks in the hills of Bizen region were simply to look for ruins of the ancient kilns and the local clay. The laborious research of the past was a transition to a future of the clay art. The task to live with the local clay, which Hirakawa calls “From the past to the future”, in itself is the “Tsuchigama Project”

Exhibition [Zen & Be-zen]

禅と備前展

”Zen & Be-zen” was a title term coined to distinguish the exhibition’s focus on linkage between Zen philosophy from art works born of a local culture in the Bizen region of Okayama.
