Inspection of kiln baking in the morning. It has not been quite 24 hours yet, it’s a no no to hurry raise the temperature. This is a critical stage to heat up gradually, in other words leave the heat to the kiln itself. Today we formed the ceiling arch with bamboo framing and placing the soil over the structure. To enable the task the trench base was made wide enough, where we filled to strengthen the arch. It was a busy day as I needed to walk to the atelier for my own pottery making work as well as to take my turns to keep the fire going.

Chris was also busy splitting the scrap wood collected for empty baking and kept supplying the fuel wood. It was great we could eat the supper Chris’ sister Wendy cooked and Ronny, her husband delivered to the kiln site as our work forced us to stay on site.
